SCAM GANG ARRESTED

Quick thinking Security Guards from Vinovium Associates working in Bishop Auckland’s Newgate Centre aid in the apprehension of a gang of scammers from Birmingham.  The gang were later arrested by Police…….  Last Friday afternoon an information message came over the Shop Watch airwaves regarding a group of suspicious male and females of Romanian origin who had been to several tills in ASDA trying to bamboozle the checkout operators.  This resulted in one of the tills being £100 down due to their change ringing scam.  They then left and shortly afterwards, ASDA security put out a message regarding them over the shop watch radio.  They were then spotted in the town centre no doubt about to try their scam again.  Security in M&S spotted them in their store and quickly deterred them from trying again.  Information was then passed over again regarding the groups direction of travel and thanks to the quick thinking of Newgate Centre Security who spotted them walking through the centre and get into their car they managed to obtain the vehicle details and pass them to the Police.  It was then passed to officers and the group were stopped by officers on the A689 travelling towards Rushyford.  The group were then arrested.  It turned out that the group were from the Birmingham area and were wanted by police in other areas of the UK for similar crimes.  It is highly likely they would have been successful again that day if it wasn’t for the quick thinking of those involved.  Groups like this are extremely organised and travel up and down the country committing this type of crime.  I just wanted to share this positive story, it shows that the Shop Watch radio network is a valuable too helping us all work together to prevent crime and catch criminals.  Remember if you think someone is suspicious it’s never a bad idea to put their descriptions etc out over the shop watch air waves to make others aware.
